Name

Silencia is a feminine play on the Spanish word for silence, silencio. I took three years of Spanish classes in high school, another year in college, and visited Mexico. I'm a person who is very inside her head, so I feel a comfort with silence. When I was looking for a domain name, I wanted something fairly simple and short that meant something to me. When I came up with silencia and found the name was available, I didn't hesitate to register it.

History

I've been working with HTML since 2001, when I played with code from blogspot and geocities. I owned crankypants.org in 2002, had a personal website at silencia.net from October 2002 until 2004. I went on to ang.nu to try something different for a personal website (and silencia.net was a portfolio, then a resources site) until January 2006, when I went back to having my personal website at silencia.net.

I think it gives me some bragging rights to have maintained this domain since 2002. Personal domains do not usually stay under the same owner for so long!
