Welcome to silencia.net, a personal blog and professional portfolio website. I am Ang, a 26 yr old web designer and kickboxer from northern Minnesota. I have a full-time job, a car, a house, 3 cats, and a moderate phobia of taxidermy. I enjoy stand-up comedy, movies, books, technology, genetic anomalies, history, Dave Attell, Dexter, money, and pizza. What more do you need to know?!

Oh, New York.
I think I’ve fallen in love. With the city. I see how this happens with so many people. NYC is so fun and interesting. A quick run-down of events:
- I loved riding the subway.
- Mike Lavoie is all kinds of fantastic. My NY big brother.
- I enjoyed being around so many different people all the time.
- Stand-up comedy is plentiful! Angela = in heaven. Dave Attell was great, as always.
- Thai food is delicious.
- Pizza, also delicious.
- I got around great all by myself, at all hours of the day and night. Nothing even a little scary ever happened!
- Times Square in the rain is fun, playing a game of lifting and lowering umbrellas with everyone else.
- I survived the taxidermy at the AMNH!
- I adored my New York boys, Mike and James.
I had an awesome time. Tentatively planning a return trip in October-ish. Would love to move there. We shall see if I can be successful in the near future, and afford it!
NYC in two weeks.
In two weeks’ time, I will be in New York City! I ordered my plane ticket weeks ago. Since then, I’ve been buying clothes so I am not mistaken for the homeless there. I got a light hoodie jacket since I imagine it’ll be much warmer in NY than it is in MN. But it could get chilly. Jeans, tshirts. I’ve been trying to get some new sneakers, but that has been a miserable experience. I’ve bought, tried, and returned 3 pairs now. They pinch or rub in various places, and that will not do for traversing the city. I have sneakers, but they are tiny little things that might not be great for lots of walking. But they might have to do. I’ll bring a few pairs so I can change it up if any start bothering me.
I had also purchased a big duffel bag to use as luggage. I want everything I bring with me to be easily carried by myself. My mom suggested I decide what to bring, and then buy a bag that it all fits into. But no! I decided on how big of a bag I was willing to carry, and everything I need had better darn well fit into it. I will also have a satchel that I’ll carry around to hold some items like my jacket, journal, and any small purchases I might make. A duffel bag and a satchel. All set.
I think my city boys and I will have much fun. Drinks and hijinks will abound. If I remember to bring my camera, hopefully I will remember to also use that camera, and have photographic evidence of the goings-on.
In need of some fun.
It turns out I’m getting some pretty good bank from my taxes this year. So I’m going to New York City, baby! My plan is to go the week of my birthday, which is May 13. Well, not a whole week, maybe 4 days. Hit up the Comedy Cellar and AMNH, eat some pizza, meet some friends! A couple of people have offered their couches for me, so I don’t have to worry about lodging. As soon as my tax money hits my bank account, I am purchasing my plane tickets and celebrating.
I’m trying to keep my plans fairly open. I don’t want to be running around from one destination to the next, trying to cram in a ton of stuff. I want to have time to just wander around and enjoy myself. That was the bummer when I was in Mexico with a group in 2000. The schedule was so packed, I hardly felt like I was even there. I hope to make future trips to NYC, so it’s not like I need to see everything in one shot.
Check out stand-up comedian, and my friend, LeAnn Diler! I just made her a website. There are a couple videos posted of her doing stand-up.
And have you seen my sexy new hair cut and color? Silly photos ahead. (more…)
