Heaven just got a whole lot cooler.

The Mitch Hedberg tribute was completely amazing. I would not have missed that for the world. Comic after comic after comic. So much love, so much excitement. All for Mitch, yo.

I worried that I was going to cry on and off during the whole show. But I managed to keep it together until his wife Lynn cried at the end. And then I lost it. But damn, it was wild.

The show started with a slide show of pictures of Mitch. From baby pictures on up to more recent ones. He had some seriously bad hair back in the day, but then again I think most people did. It was cool and funny to see. Then all the comics did their thing. 12 comics, one right after the other. All of them were great, I laughed all the way through. A few of the comics shared some stories about Mitch and that sort of thing. Lynn read from a few of Mitch’s notebooks, some jokes that he probably would have used at some point, and some crazy inane stuff that was just hilarious to hear but wouldn’t have really made a joke. They closed with one of Mitch’s Letterman appearances, and then all the comics came up on stage, and then his parents. And that’s around when Lynn started to cry and then I did.

I had ended up going to the show alone, and then went out to the bar after alone. I didn’t meet up with any of the comics, but I enjoyed a few Long Islands and met a few cool people who worked at the bar and one of the guys who did the lighting for the show. I was sociable and putting myself forth to meet new people, ya know. Quiet types like me don’t usually extend ourselves so much, but I felt like going for it. Then I went back to my hotel suite where I enjoyed some naked time and kicked back. It was a great weekend. I hope I don’t forget too much about the show, the whole atmosphere. It’s one of those times you want to hang onto as long as you can.
