homosexuality and abortion
Nov 24, 2005 - New York City

i really, really, really don’t know why so many churches and christians are so hung up on homosexuality and abortion.
remember when some bishops said that they wouldn’t give communion to pro-choice parishioners?
no pun intended, but what the hell?
christ didn’t mention homosexuality and/or abortion. we don’t know for sure what christ’s opinion would be on these two issues.
so why isn’t the church more hung up with divorce and materialism and violence and war and eliminating poverty and non-judgementalism and forgiveness and some of the things that christ actually DID talk about?
it’s just so odd, that these 2 issues are so central to so much contemporary theology, and christ never mentioned either one of them.
so you can be a rapacious businessman who believes in the death-penalty and who is pro-war and the church will make you feel right at home.
but if you’re a pacifist who happens to believe in gay rights the church will ostracize you.
to quote some of our hip-hop brethren(and sistren…), shit’s fucked up.
would it ever be asking too much for a christian place of worship to actually be centered on the teachings of christ and not on the seemingly arbitrary(and, let’s point out, secular)positions of the clergy and the religious hierarchy/beaurocracy?

It’s also so blantantly hypocritical for the

church to condemn gay right’s supporters and then protect and hide child

molesters. Gives a whole new meaning to “Suffer the little children to come

    to me…”

    I totally agree - it’s an

ancient view of looking at it reinforced by stuffy old men with green

    cardigans!

There ARE churches that talk about Jesus’

teachings, but they’re (sadly) hard to come by. I hate to stereotype, but

it seems as if it’s the Catholics that are jumping on this political wagon

and they tend to make up things anyway, so I really don’t pay much

attention to Catholicism. I’m your generic, non-denominational Christian

and yeah, I believe things like homosexuality and abortion are wrong, but I

don’t go into church looking to talk about them. I go to church to talk

about GOD. Who would have thought?
